Back to work beauty

Whatever your office vibe, subtle but flattering hair and makeup that stays in place and looks good is always a winner. With these simple tips you’ll be able to go back to work looking polished with minimal effort and skill required.

Fresh skin

You know the drill, it starts with a good skincare routine, so no shortcuts when it comes to cleansing, treating, and moisturising. It will not only give you the best base to apply your makeup, but good skin will shine through. To up the glow factor use a glow boosting serum under your moisturiser that contains vitamin C as it will keep your skin perky throughout the day especially under office conditions of computer rays and air conditioning. Make sure your moisturiser is light but effective, which means it contains antioxidants and hyaluronic acid to boost moisture and combat daily pollutants that your skin encounters on your way to the office and during office time. A light spritz of a facial mist throughout the day will keep your skin fresh.

Define your eyes

You want to make your eyes shine and pop, not look like your about to hit the dance floor, so keep it neutral but defined. Go for soft brown and muted grey shadow smudged over the entire lid. This will take away any redness and make your eyes look a bit more polished. Use a pencil or gel eyeliner to define around the outer rim lightly blending with a brush to blur the edges. Finish with a coat of mascara but don’t overdo it to keep lashes defined rather than caked. You have a lot of hours to get through and there’s nothing worse than panda eyes in your next meeting or zoom call.

Flawless finish

You want your skin to look even but not caked, so go for a lightweight but long-lasting foundation. Look for key words like longwear and stay on the packaging and remember the less is more approach. These formulas are heavier, so you won’t need as much. Always use a sponge or foundation brush to apply for an even finish and a light dusting of translucent powder will keep it in place and give that flawless face. Keep blotting papers in your desk draw to take away the t-zone shine later in the day.

The best glow

A light dusting of bronzer over the high points of your face will warm up your complexion and keep it looking healthy. Just sweep a powder bronzer with a large fluffy brush over the cheekbones, bridge of nose, top of forehead and chin and it will give your face an instant perk up. There’s nothing like a dab of cream blush to the apples of your cheeks to make you look healthy, so smile and dab a peach hue into the skin with your fingertips pressing out towards your ear.

A simple stain

Whether you use a lipstick, stain, or gloss a touch of colour on your lips will make you look elegant and polished. Neutral hues are classic and great for day wear, but if you love colour you don’t have to shy away from it, just apply sparingly to stop it looking overdone. Dab the colour on with your fingertips in the centre of the lips working outwards which will keep the overall look soft and colour blurred.

Natural hair

The trick of ‘natural’ but ‘done’ hair is to wash it the day before the office. Not only will it cut getting ready time, but it makes styling a breeze whether you use a curling tong or straightening iron. Hair will be less fluffy and more likely to take to your preferred styling treatment. A setting or shine spray lightly misted over the hair before you walk out the door will set your look without leaving it looking too ‘done’. If you skipped washing, and it’s looking a little lacklustre, a dry shampoo or hair accessories are just what you need to freshen it up.
