After summer beauty repair

We crave beach time after a long winter, but after the summer sun the skin and hair need some care and repair. Here’s how to prolong the glow and look fabulous after your holiday.

Erase sun damage

After all that beach time, you need to quench your complexion as sun exposure can leave it dry, so you need to up your moisturisation to stop inflammation and put back lost moisture through the heat and UV. Now is the time to get serious about vitamin C as it's one of the most potent antioxidants and an effective way to counter discoloration aka pigmentation on the skin. A serum or moisturiser will be the most effective way to apply it so smooth onto clean, dry skin every morning and follow with a BB or CC cream which will conceal uneven skin tones or sunspots. Keep up with masking twice a week and go for ultra-moisture boosting formulas containing the most potent moisturiser hyaluronic acid.

Body boosters

Suntanned skin, though often considered enviable, is your skin’s reaction to sunlight. Melanocytes, the skin cells that produce melanin, the pigment that makes our skin darken, are stimulated with sun exposure, giving us a tan. But suntanned skin is also stressed skin, it's thicker, drier, and less elastic. So, it’s important to moisturise it to keep it healthy and prolong your tan safely. Shea butter and almond oil are your best allies to help nourish, regenerate, and relax the skin on your body after summer. Always exfoliate before moisturising to get rid of dry skin. Apply a body scrub in the shower over your whole body, in circular motions from top to bottom. Rinse and then apply a nourishing oil once you’ve dried off then finish with a body butter to give it an extra moisture boost!

Hair repair

Endless days enjoying salt water and sand can leave hair super dry, dull, and neglected. Increased sun exposure can break down the proteins of the hair, causing damage to the surface. You’ll most likely notice this as split ends and frizz. If you’ve had enough of weak and lacklustre hair, simply visit your hairdresser, as a little trim will remove the most damaged ends. Then you’ll need to pay attention to the roots. Switch to a hydrating and smoothing shampoo and conditioner to boost moisture and help to flatten frizzy cuticles and use a hair mask containing keratin, lipids, and ceramides to give your hair a boost. If your hair is coloured, you will notice colour fade from beach days, so now is the time to use colour preserving products-especially shampoo and conditioner as they’ll boost the pigments and keep your hair glossy. Weekly treatments will also keep your locks looking fresh. When the hair is nourished it shines and the colour is more vibrant. Finish with serums and oils to keep the hair sleek and up the surface shine factor.
