We asked some of our favourite influencers for their top summer party tips. From finding the perfect outfit to their favourite summer hair and makeup looks and how they dress their alfresco tables.
‘In the summer, I love to set the table casually and with natural tones. Winding watercress or a large bouquet of flowers look great as decoration and I love tablecloths and napkins in unwashed linen. Simplicity is important in the summer. I always set the table as a buffet as its more relaxed,’ says Emily Slotte.
‘Slide-free summer party makeup tip is to use a lightweight, long-lasting foundation, and set it with a translucent setting powder to absorb excess oils. Apply a cream blush for a natural flush and use waterproof mascara and eyeliner to prevent smudging. Finally, use a setting spray to ensure makeup stays in place,’ says Danijela Pavlica.
‘I find a good setting spray is a must for those long party nights and I always have a great lip pencil, lipgloss, and a setting powder to fix the sweaty T-zone in my bag,’ says Josefin Lavold.
Emily’s top cocktail recipe is a Limoncello Spritz with elderberries
Serves 4 people
1 sliced lemon
4 dl prosecco
3 dl Limoncello
1 dl undiluted elderberry juice
Soda water
Ice
Fill the glasses with ice. Pour 1/4 part per glass of prosecco, Limoncello, and juice into the glass. Top with soda and lemon - enjoy!
Of course, a simple glass of Prosecco or Champagne is always a great party drink, and having amazing glassware to show off your cocktails will complete the look.
Emily’s top party styling tips are as easy breezy as her table scaping. ‘Fill ice cubes with flowers well in advance of the party, which you then put in the glasses for pre-drinks. It always looks so pretty. Set a long table with your favourite tablecloths or sheets and fill them with low, small flower bouquets. Hang rice or glass lanterns in the trees. Create a corner for drinks, why not on a small table next to a beautiful bush or under a tree? Maximize the drinks table with large bowls or champagne coolers with ice. Stick in flowers and fill with drink. Music is an important part of the atmosphere, so don't forget to put on a nice playlist before your guests arrive. Set up a buffet and stack plates for simplicity and a relaxed feeling,’ she says.
The more porous your hair, the more susceptible it will be to humidity. Bonding treatments help the cuticles lie flatter and create protection from humidity. Try a different style in summer like a slick ponytail with a side parting and some glossy strong-hold gel on the top section. Styling tools are great for trying a new look but, always use a heat-protectant spray. If your hair is curly, a gel can help to reduce the frizz. If it’s only slightly humid, carry a mini hairspray, spay on the bristle brush, and use it over the top section of hair. Michaella Delér’s top tip for summer hair ‘I just love to wear my hair half up in a little bun, it’s as simple as that.’
‘l always switch to lighter, fresher scents in the summer. Citrus, aquatic, and floral notes are popular choices for warmer months. Look for fragrances with notes of bergamot, grapefruit, orange blossom, jasmine, or neroli. These scents are uplifting, refreshing, and won't feel heavy in the heat,’ says Danijela.
1. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (look for an SPF rating of at least 30, plus ‘UVA’ in a circle or PA rating on the packaging) at least 15 minutes before sun exposure.
2. As a rule, use a golf ball-sized amount to cover your body and one teaspoon for your face and neck.
3. Remember the tops of the ears, the end of your nose, hands, and feet. Then, top up every couple of hours.
‘I always, always SPF under my makeup, and then a bronzer and a powder with SPF, protection is key,’ says Josefin.
‘Find a dress that is versatile, and comfortable, but has a cute touch! My favourite thing to wear to summer parties are cute short dresses or skirts, bring those bare legs out while you can and it shows off your shoes,’ says Josefin.
‘I always say to wear what you feel the most comfortable in, as it always works. For me that is a midi and long dresses and different kinds of suits,’ says Michaela.
Her top tip for creating a summer party look? ‘I love gold in the summer (well I always love it, but especially in the summer). Big earrings or bracelets with a simple dress is my go-to look,’ she says.
