Trend report

As the new season arrives, our stylist Rikke Wackerhausen shows you how to wear the key pieces that you should add to your wardrobe.

How can I incorporate checks into my wardrobe?

Checks come in many styles this season from the Prince of Wales to Houndstooth, and more. A lumberjack shirt is a great way to add a check to your wardrobe. Simply wear over a turtleneck, and layer over the Fisherman or Hunting jacket. The two-toned checked long coat is a great alternative to the formal monochrome without being over the top. Big checked scarves are also a great way to spice up a more monochrome toned outfit.

I need a new coat, what style should I buy this season?

One of the major trends for coats this season is the puffer jacket which should be worn oversized. Also look to the puffer vest, which is great to wear with an oversized knit or a crewneck for a relaxed weekend look. Leather coats are also trending both for women and men. Here, I would pick a short jacket in either a Seventies-style or boxy anorak shape.

Cargo pants are back, how do I wear them this time?

The cargo pants come back again and again, but this season they should be worn with tailored tops, blazers, a short fitting jackets. This makes them very wearable for smarter occasions and office wear. Pair with a chunky loafer or sneakers.

What is the best way to layer clothes?

Not only is layering great for trans seasonal dressing, but you get to mix different fabrics and patterns together to keep your outfit interesting. If you want to make a blazer less formal, layer with a thin turtleneck first, a shirt, then the blazer. When layering denim, start with jeans, then add a denim shirt and a denim jacket, but make sure you change the tone of denim for the jacket. Look for black, grey, or a different shade of denim than the jeans.
