Microwaving can cause uneven heat distribution in the milk, which can lead to severe burns in the baby’s mouth (microwaving may also alter the composition of breast milk). • Clean and sterilize all parts that come into contact with the breast and breast milk before the first use. • Only use parts recommended by Medela with your breast pump. • If pumping is uncomfortable or painful, turn off the breast pump and loosen the breast shield with a finger between the breast and the shield, then remove the shield from the breast. • Although it may feel a bit uncomfortable the first time using a breast pump, it should never be painful. If you are unsure about which breast shield size to choose, you can visit www.medela.se or consult a breastfeeding counselor or specialist who can help you find the right fit. NOTE! Be cautious when handling bottles and other components: • Plastic bottles and other parts become brittle after freezing and may break if dropped. • Bottles and other parts can be damaged if handled incorrectly (e.g., if dropped, screwed on too tightly, or knocked over). • Do not use breast milk from bottles or other components that show signs of damage.
