Sun Protection Factor (SPF) indicates the level of protection from UVB rays - the ones that make you burn. The number stands for how many times longer you can be in the sun without burning, compared to how long you can be in the sun without SPF. With SPF 15 you can be in the sun 15 times longer, SPF 20 means 20 times longer, and further. SPF does not measure protection against harmful UVA rays. To protect yourself from both UVB and UVA rays, look for a sunscreen marked with the "broad spectrum" .
