Meet the bedtime saviours that work while you sleep so you wake up with great skin come morning.
Everything is better after a good night’s sleep, especially our skin, as this is when the body shifts into repair mode so it’s an easy way to achieve great skin come morning. Having a good skincare routine before bed will support this process and it’s one of the best times to undo the day’s free radical damage (from exposure to pollution to sunlight) to leave your face looking fresh and wide-awake. Here’s what to do before you hit the pillow.
BEST NIGHTTIME ROUTINE
The first step is cleansing and whether you wear makeup or not, you need to cleanse away the day's grime and surface pollution. A gentle cleanser that won’t disrupt the skin’s barrier is all you need. If you do wear makeup two cleanses are required to thoroughly remove makeup and then clean the skin. A cleansing balm or oil is a great option for the first cleanse and then a wash-off cleanser for the second.
A balancing toner post cleanse will reset the skin’s pH which is impacted even when you just cleanse with water. Just make sure it doesn’t contain alcohol. Now is a good time to use an essence too as these also balance, hydrate, and prepare the skin for the next stage.
This step is all about targeting your specific skin concerns. The night is the ideal time to use a retinoid product as they don’t get on well with sunlight and are the gold standard for stimulating the production of collagen, which over time will give the benefit of fewer fine lines. If retinoids aren’t for you, a serum will give your skin an extra boost. Target your serum to your skin concerns, but a good all-rounder is one that contains hyaluronic acid and antioxidants.
Put in the right kind of night shift by using a moisturiser like a night cream, face oil, or overnight mask. These will ensure your skin stays hydrated overnight, and will support the skin’s barrier. You can use your daytime moisturiser so long as it doesn’t contain an SPF. Always pick one that suits your skin type.
Get comfortable
Add some extra luxury to your bedtime routine with soft pyjamas, a robe, and bedlinen to send you off into a deep beauty sleep.

MORNING MAKEUP TIPS
Always use a primer for radiance as it will instantly even out the skin tone and give a smoothness to the skin that a moisturiser can’t do alone. If it contains radiance particles, then even better.
· Under-eye concealer is essential but apply it to the outer corners of your eyes as well as the inner ones because they ‘dip down’ if you’re tired. Tiny veins around your eyes will also show up more when you’re tired, so conceal them as well.
· When applying your concealer, don’t go too close to the lashes or your mascara will melt, and mascara opens your eyes so it's essential.
· Choose a sheer soft lilac for eyes as it neutralises redness.
· Swap your black mascara for a navy shade instead, as the tinge of blue makes tired eyes sparkle.
· Instead of bronzer, try a cream peach blush on the apples of your cheeks. It will instantly bring freshness and a glow to the skin.
· Invest in an eyelash curler as it will open your eyes wider and let more light in your eyes. Which is a good thing if you suffer from heavy eyelids or feel sleepy first thing.
