How can I shop more sustainably or ethically?
How can I buy more sustainably?
First and foremost, it is important to mention that the most sustainable product you have is the one you already own. Whatever the materials or production country, all new products have an impact on the environment and the people.
That being said, we also understand that from time to time, we all enjoy adding new pieces to our wardrobe or our home.
If you decide to buy something new, we invite you to check the Made With Care shop. Products featured in that shop fulfil our Made With Care criteria and consider environmental and social aspects of the production. To ensure a reliable and transparent assortment, we rely on globally recognised third-party certifications that work with brands to audit and verify their products.

What is the difference between sustainable fashion, ethical clothing and fair production?
Many (a lot) terms are used in the textile industry to highlight products that are better for the environment and the people. Sustainable, ethical, fair, transparent, and environmentally friendly are a few of them. While some claims like “sustainable fashion” are more holistic than “ethical clothing” or “fair production”, which refer only to the social conditions of production and not the environmental ones, all of them ultimately try to depict better production practices.
Those words should be looked at very carefully, as they can be a sign of true efforts or greenwashing without specific information or documented proof.
To avoid falling into greenwashing, always make sure that claims like sustainable fashion, ethical clothing or fair production are explained. Every brand should explain in detail what they mean when they use those terms, or avoid them and replace them with terms more specific, so that anyone, including yourself as a customer, is able to check whether their definition of sustainable, ethical, or fair aligns with your values.
What do all the certifications mean?
The meaning of certifications can vary depending on the certification itself. Most certifications deal with the integrity of materials used in products (i.e. Global Organic Textile Standard, Responsible Wool Standard, Leather Working Group), other certifications deal with recycling (i.e. Global Recycling Standard, Recycled Claim Standard), some deal with social compliance (i.e. BSCI, SMETA…), and so on. In most cases, certifications prove certain claims of a product, as all information provided is checked and verified by the certification body.
To make it easier for consumers, whenever one of our products is certified, we always address what the certification covers. That information can also always be found online. We invite all customers who are curious to know more about certifications to directly refer to the website of the certification of interest. We use certifications, as they are independently issued by third parties.
