Sweater weather season is upon us. It’s time to bring out your knits and cardigans, and cosy up in snug, fashionable layers. By Josefin Barsom.
Yes, you heard it. The 90s are back. Throw a slouchy, oversized cardigan over your shoulders for a soft grunge look reminiscent of Kurt Cobain. Layer it with droopy threads, and baggy pants for a casual silhouette.
This all-time fall classic comes in many forms, be it thick cable knits, crewnecks, polos, and zip-ups. The chunky knit gives a rustic feel perfect for a cabin weekend in the woods parked in front of the fireplace.
Chandler Bing’s favourite fashion piece has made a comeback. Wear your sleeveless knit on top of a shirt for a preppy schoolboy look, or on top of a white t-shirt for some more edge.
Polished, cosy, and fully mother-in-law approved. Fill your wardrobe with zip-ups, polo necks, clean-cut collars, and posh brands such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Fred Perry. Aim for varsity-inspired knits and comb your hair to the side, and you’ll have the Ivy League A+ student look in your bag.
A simple way to elevate your look is to include more patterns and stripes. Dare to break it off with different colors and motifs. Go for classic stripes if you want a sophisticated, nautical look. Pair with simple jeans or loose-fit suit pants.
The 50s and 60s called to say the Cuban cardigans and collar shirts are back. Think Jude Law in Talented Mr. Ripley and you’re well on your way. Opt for vertical stripes a la Fred Perry, a classic monochrome color or a bright color pop.
