Question 1

What is Prohibited best known for?

Accepted Answer

Prohibited made its name by doing the opposite of what most streetwear brands were doing in 2021. At a time when German streetwear was dominated by "gangster heroism" aesthetics and artificial scarcity, the Berlin-based founders set out to deconstruct the category, reducing pieces to fabric, fit, and colour rather than bold logos and hype-driven releases. That approach quickly gained traction, thanks largely to direct, rational TikTok content explaining why a plain black hoodie was worth purchasing, an unusual fashion strategy that proved remarkably effective. Prohibited's design inspiration comes from vintage sportswear and Berlin's urban culture, resulting in a wardrobe built around modern-cut essentials. The brand describes its aesthetic as "The Modern Yuppie", which combines relaxed streetwear silhouettes with references to preppy and classic dressing. Prohibited designs in Berlin are produced in Turkey, with tight control over fabric weight and construction. The brand is now sold in over 150 stores worldwide and available on major retail platforms.

Question 2

What products does Prohibited sell?

Accepted Answer

Prohibited sells a focused line of men's streetwear, including T-shirts, hoodies, crew necks, sweatpants and track pants, all designed in Berlin and manufactured in Turkey. The brand began with basics and has remained anchored there, though the range has expanded to include knitwear, woven shirts, and outerwear as the company has grown. Styles began as blank tees and hoodies and have since become more complex and sophisticated, without departing from the brand's core focus on fit and fabric over decorative detail. Prohibited's palette is restrained throughout the collection, with navies, blacks, greys, and earthy tones appearing on a consistent basis, with occasional colour accents. The pieces are intended to be mixed freely, reflecting the brand's "Modern Yuppie" concept of combining streetwear staples with more classic wardrobe references. Hoodies are made with a 360 GSM fabric weight, reflecting the brand's emphasis on construction quality even in its most basic items. The overall offering is purposefully limited; Prohibited focuses on getting the basics right rather than expanding into unrelated categories.
